Prior to coming to Bilkent, I completed an M.A. in Comparative Literature and a Ph.D. in Near and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Washington. My doctoral project focused on the emergence of modern authorship in the Ottoman Empire during the last decades of the nineteenth century in conjunction with developments in education and printing technologies.
I have also published articles and taught courses on translation, internationalism, world literature and digital humanities. I have been a member of and shared my work via organizations such as Middle Eastern Studies Association, Western Ottomanists’ Workshop, American Comparative Literature Association and Nineteenth Century Studies Association.
